  1. Synopsis:
  2.    set pad_char [<character>]
  3.  
  4. Description:
  5.    If this variable is set, the character it is set to will be used to pad
  6.    right-aligned text, instead of using spaces.  It can be set to a space,
  7.    or unset, to return to the default behavior.
